Belmondo is a character from "Confronting the Darkness!" (XY066).
A former robotics professor at Lumiose University, Belmondo had spent his whole life chasing one dream: building the ultimate robot. When he laid eyes on the Clembot, he saw his shot. He hacked into the Lumiose Gym's computer system, nabbed the Clembot's blueprints, and used them to build his own version—which he called the Dark Clembot and genuinely believed was superior. The kicker? He programmed it to care about nothing but winning, no matter what.
His plan was simple enough: have the Dark Clembot commit crimes, then have it "solve" those same crimes and pin everything on the original Clembot. That way, he'd look like the genius who created the better robot. Unfortunately for him, Officer Jenny caught the real Clembot on security footage before the scheme could really take off.
By the time Belmondo shows up in the episode, he's planning to break into the Lumiose Museum with his creation. But Ash and friends had already figured out what was going on—they knew about the hacked blueprints and the museum heist. When the Dark Clembot made its move, the original Clembot kicked it aside. That's when Belmondo revealed himself and got into it with Clemont over whose robot was actually better. They settled it the only way that made sense: a battle between the two Clembots.
During the fight, Clemont pointed out what Belmondo refused to see: his robot didn't care about the Pokémon it fought alongside, only about winning. His Clembot, by contrast, worked with its Pokémon as partners. Belmondo just laughed it off—to him, winning was everything.
Things got complicated when Team Rocket's magnet drew both robots in. After Blaziken Mask freed them, both machines were too worn out to keep going. So Belmondo and Clemont took over the battle themselves. Belmondo threw his Magnezone at Clemont's Luxray and lost almost immediately. Clemont had watched the Dark Clembot's fighting style closely enough to predict Belmondo's every move—after all, Belmondo had coded it based on his own tactics. With that loss, Officer Jenny showed up and arrested him.
