Arai Kazuichi is the cocky substitute homeroom teacher who everyone calls Pin—everyone except Sawako, who sticks to the formal "Arai-sensei." The previous teacher apparently got sick after Pin dumped a bunch of summer work on Sawako, so that tells you something about his character. He's obsessed with baseball and coaches the school team, which makes sense given that he used to play in the same league as Kazehaya's father back in the day. That history means he's known Shota since they were kids, and he loves holding that over his head with embarrassing stories. Pin has a habit of enjoying "interrupting" people mid-conversation. He's also the one responsible for the ridiculous nickname "Pedro Martinez" for the puppy that Kazehaya and Sawako found by the river.
