Merak is a young Adept commanding Sumeragi's private military forces. His Septimal ability, called "Wormhole," lets him tear holes through space itself—a power he channels through a Glaive named the "Unwavering Spirit."
Nova values him as a strategist; his intellect is genuinely sharp. The problem is that Merak is spectacularly lazy and apathetic, seemingly unmotivated by almost everything. In battle, he can't even be bothered to stand up, so he fights from a floating armored chair instead, which works fine for him since that's where he does most of his fighting anyway.
