El Gigante are Los Iluminados' answer to the ultimate bioweapon—humanoid creatures towering four times taller than normal people, engineered for raw strength and durability. They came about as an unintended consequence of the cult's Plagas experiments on human subjects, when researchers discovered the parasites could mutate their hosts into these massive, powerful beings.
The problem? They're dumb as rocks and nearly impossible to control. The trade-off between power and intelligence meant Los Iluminados never mass-produced them—they simply couldn't be relied on not to go rogue or wreak havoc among their own Ganados cultists. So the cult ended up with only a handful scattered across the region. Castle Salazar got two to patrol its underground levels, while two more were stuffed into the coal mines beneath the village, repurposed since the Ganados had no other use for them.
