Lightning started as a stray hanging around the back alley of Dan's house before becoming the team's unofficial mascot. Despite his name, he's not exactly built for speed—he's a happy, stocky French Bulldog who spends most of his downtime sleeping, eating, or playing with the Bakugan scattered around the place. But when things get serious, he snaps into combat mode and can hold his own in a brawl.
What makes Lightning unique is that he's an actual working member of the Awesome Ones. He's got his own Bakugan and a special collar with a ball that lets him carry and launch them in battle. Yeah, it's weird that a dog is actively fighting alongside his human friends, but that's exactly what sets him apart. His animal instincts give him a fundamentally different relationship with Bakugan than any human could develop, and that sometimes makes all the difference in a fight. He directs his Bakugan through barks—no human language needed.
He's also their lookout whenever the kids are filming prank videos or need someone keeping watch. As the team's unofficial alarm system, a well-timed "YAP" from Lightning usually means trouble's on the way. His loyalty to both his human friends and his Bakugan partners makes them trust his judgment, even if he does have a habit of burying Bakugan in the backyard now and then.
