Ernst is the interim president of the Federal Republic of Giad, though his path to leadership was anything but conventional. He started as an imperial general but grew disillusioned with the Empire's direction, ultimately leading a revolution against it. His military victory transformed him into the Federacy's first president—a pretty major pivot from his days serving the regime he'd come to oppose.
Beyond politics, Ernst is known as an adoptive father figure. He took in Frederica Rosenfort early on, and later became guardian to the five survivors of the Spearhead Squadron, which says something about his character outside the halls of power.
