Azan's a former Holy Iron Chain Knight who traded the order's rigid structure for life on the road. He's genuinely devout and honorable—the kind of guy who actually lives by the knightly code rather than just talking about it. He eventually decided the Holy Knights weren't the right fit anymore and struck out as a wandering knight instead.
He wound up crossing paths with Guts and the crew when they were all on the same ship, and he's gotten close enough to the group to take Isidro under his wing and help train the kid. Despite his serious religious convictions, he's proven himself useful and genuinely invested in the people around him.
