Former leader of Nadeshiko Village. Best known for her encounter with Jiraiya years back—he'd rolled into her village under the pretense of "research" for his novels, and she wasn't having it. She chased him down and challenged him to a duel, supposedly to win his hand in marriage. Neither fighter could get the upper hand, so the match stalled out. Rather than settle it themselves, Jiraiya made a bet that their respective students would eventually face off instead if the two of them never reunited. That promise technically ended up with his last student, Naruto, though the initial arrangement was meant for her pupil Shizuka.
Fans often note the strong implication that she's Shizuka's mother, though the series never officially confirms this—she's credited only as "Previous Head of the Village."
