Urushi grew up in the Konoha Orphanage as an orphaned child before eventually becoming a shinobi of Konohagakure.
He's best known among fans of the series for being present during a pivotal moment: when he and some other orphans discovered a wounded boy lying under a tree, they brought him back to the orphanage where Nonou, the caretaker, healed him. The next day, Urushi noted how strange it was that the boy had no name. Nonou decided to call him Kabuto after a helmet Urushi had placed on the boy's head—a detail that stuck and became his permanent name.
As the years went on, Urushi and the other orphans regularly helped Nonou and Kabuto treat injured Konohagakure shinobi. While Urushi initially complained about having to work with ninja, he understood the orphanage needed the money and did his part without complaint.
