Material-L is a clone of Fate Testarossa who materialized during the Dark Fragment Incident as part of the Unbreakable Dark system.
She's best known by the name Material-L, though her full designation was eventually revealed to be Levi the Slasher in The Gears of Destiny. The "L" is widely believed to reference Lightning—a fitting connection given her status as a Fate clone. Her actual name, Levi, plays on "Levin," an old word for lightning, so the whole naming scheme circles back to the same theme.
In her earlier appearances, particularly The Battle of Aces, she was called Material-L in English or simply "Assailant of Thunderblade" in the Japanese version, though fans note the exact ruby-kanas weren't originally specified.
