Claire's basically rolling in money—her family runs the Kokonoe company—and she has zero concept of spending limits. Sakura's described it perfectly: to Claire, money is like water pouring endlessly from a tap. Despite her wealthy background, she's always wanted to just live like a regular girl, which is why she goes to an ordinary school instead of some fancy private academy. The problem is she doesn't really know how to be normal.
She's also overprotective of Karin to a fault and spoils her rotten, which kind of defeats the purpose of trying to fit in with everyone else.
