Yumiko is a second-year student at Mihama Academy and the daughter of Michiaki Sakaki, a wealthy railway executive. She was actually the school's first enrolled student, though her sharp personality and complicated past have made it hard for her to connect with people. She tends to keep to herself and doesn't seek out interaction with the other students.
The thing she's most known for—besides her blunt attitude—is always carrying a box cutter on her, which she's quick to pull out as a threat when she gets angry. She's a serious bookworm with a particular love of mystery novels, which might suggest a more refined sensibility. That impression falls apart completely at mealtimes, though. Despite her otherwise composed demeanor, she has a total weakness for cheap junk food—especially fried soba noodles in a cup.
