Thetis is devoted to Poseidon—a loyalty born from a life debt. Years ago, when she was just a fish stranded on a beach, a young Julian Solo found her and threw her back into the sea, saving her life. That act of kindness bound her to him forever.
During Poseidon's abduction of Athena, Thetis found herself caught between the two sides, trying to mediate between Poseidon's followers and Athena's forces. She couldn't do much to help the other Mariners, though—Ophiuchus Shaina defeated her in combat. Shaina spared her life anyway, which turned out to matter; Thetis was able to rescue Julian from the collapse of the Underwater Sanctuary after Athena stripped Poseidon's soul from his body.
By then, Thetis was dying. She transformed back into a fish, and when Julian discovered her, he did what he'd always done: he returned her to the ocean, finally giving her peace.
