Brad is an action movie star with a massive female fanbase. He first crosses paths with Ash and his friends when he approaches them in disguise and hands them a bundled blanket, asking them to keep an eye on it. Inside is his Smoochum. When he tries to retrieve her later, Team Rocket's interference leaves him unable to find them—his manager Vidso shows up and drags him back to the film set instead.
Once Ash tracks Brad down to return Smoochum, Vidso intercepts them and claims Brad no longer wants the Pokémon. But Brad hears Smoochum's voice and rushes over, thrilled to have her back. Vidso pushes him hard to dump her, arguing that a cute Smoochum tanks his tough-guy image and that he should carry a Charizard or Houndoom instead. Brad refuses outright—Smoochum is the reason he made it this far in the first place.
When Vidso won't let it go, he orders two security guards (who are actually Team Rocket in disguise) to get rid of the kids and Smoochum. Team Rocket tries to make off with her themselves, but Brad jumps in without any Pokémon of his own to fight them off. His fans, thinking the whole thing is a stunt, eat it up and cheer him on. Afterward, Brad tells them the truth: Smoochum is his real-life companion, not just a movie prop.
Vidso assumed his career was toast. Instead, Brad's fans embraced Smoochum just as much as he did—she ended up becoming a star in his films right alongside him.
