Tanzou was a Genin from the Hidden Leaf Village who competed in the Chunin Exams. He and his teammates advanced to the second test, but things fell apart while he was away looking for food. His teammates—Minoji and Shibire—decided to open their Heaven scroll without him, which immediately disqualified the entire team. By the time Tanzou got back, both of them were already knocked out, and their exam was over. Fans sometimes note that his absence at that crucial moment essentially cost his team their shot at advancement.
