Hyunkel's parents were killed in a monster attack, but one of the monsters raised him as his own son. Years later, when Avan defeated Hadlar, Hyunkel found his adoptive father dead and mistakenly blamed Avan for the killing—a grudge he'd carry for a long time. He became Avan's first student, but after training under him, he secretly attempted to assassinate his teacher using an attack he'd developed called Bloody Scraid. That didn't work out, and Hyunkel eventually ended up with Myst-Vearn, who groomed him into a general of the Immortal Army, one of the six major forces under Hadlar and Vearn.
The turning point came when Hyunkel learned the truth: Hadlar, not Avan, had actually killed his adoptive father. This revelation led him to join Dai's party. Hyunkel originally fought with a demon magic sword that could transform into full armor, called Amudo, but Dai destroyed it during a battle against Baran. Since then, he's wielded a spear with the same transformation ability, crafted by the same maker.
He's proficient in all the basic Avan techniques, plus the Demon Puppet Grab he picked up from Myst-Vearn. Switching to a spear meant learning spear-specific versions of Avan's elemental attacks: Thundering Ground Flash, Echoing Sea Flash, and Sky Flash. His most devastating move is the Grand Cross—a massive, cross-shaped attack that channels his entire life force into a single strike.
