Hakubi is a metal-wielder of considerable skill, capable of forging blades and automatons that function as his personal militia. He's spent centuries using these abilities—and his immortal life—to push himself to his absolute limits.
Back during the Heian Period, he worked as one of his master's most trusted assassins alongside Mao and Hyakka, disappearing for weeks before returning with payment for successful political murders. When the onmyoji school fell apart, Hakubi became immortal, and he's been testing the boundaries of that immortality ever since, throwing himself into wars across the ages. He'd die repeatedly, only to wake up unscathed and start again.
That changed in the early 1900s when he crossed paths with Hyakka—another immortal from his old school and now a serious rival. During their battle, Hakubi sliced out Hyakka's eye and burned him so badly his wounds wouldn't heal. The resentment between them runs deep; Hakubi never forgave Hyakka for joining the Goko Clan, seeing it as a betrayal born from family privilege and status.
Sometime during the Tokugawa Period, Hakubi heard rumors of someone selling life-extension techniques. That search led him to the water temple at Shiranui, where he met Sana and struck up an alliance.
By the 1920s, his focus has shifted. He survived the Russo-Japanese War under the alias "Captain Shirasu"—and wears an iron mask to hide the scars from his fight with Hyakka. Now he's working on reviving the Goko Clan and tracking down cursed artifacts that vanished from their storehouse centuries ago.
