The Captain doesn't stick around for long—just an episode or two—but he's actually pretty important to the story. He's the one who gets Team Urameshi to the Dark Tournament on his boat, and more importantly, he throws them into their first real trial to prep them for what's ahead. Basically, he's the gateway to everything that follows.
