Ophis emerged from nothingness itself and rarely displays emotion beyond a single-minded goal: eliminating the Great Red and reclaiming the Dimensional Gap for its "silence." Issei sees her as honest and genuinely naive—a pure dragon in her own way—though Azazel has noted she's noticeably changed through exposure to humanity. The specifics of how remain unclear.
Born in the Dimensional Gap ages ago, Ophis made it her home until she tried to return and discovered the Great Red had settled in first. Before taking her current form, she appeared as an elderly man. She eventually became the leader of the Khaos Brigade, though the exact timing isn't specified. Ddraig first name-dropped her in Volume 4, calling her "the strongest existence." Her actual debut came in Volume 6 when she showed up in the Underworld to observe the Great Red before vanishing again.
By Volume 13, she's developed a close bond with Rassei, even offering to train the young dragon herself.
Her powers revolve around manifesting snakes that can absorb and amplify a person's strength dramatically. She can create different types that unlock a Sacred Gear's full potential—useful for reaching Balance Breaker faster, though risky enough to destroy the Gear and kill its user. According to Ddraig, her true strength dwarfs both Heavenly Dragons combined. When powered down to merely twice their level, she finds it laughably weak.
