Kosuzu Motoori
Kosuzu is a laid-back human girl living in the Human village who works at Suzunaan, a traditional Japanese book rental shop. She's best known for her recent ability to decipher any book just by touching it—a skill she's put to immediate use reading youkai books, despite how dangerous they can be. She's casual about the risks and has become obsessed with collecting them, to the point where she claims to have lost all interest in normal books. She prides herself as Gensokyo's top youkai book collector.
She knows Reimu Hakurei, Marisa Kirisame, and Hieda no Akyuu casually, and is the main character of Touhou Suzunaan - Forbidden Scrollery.
About Youkai Books
Youkai books are exactly what they sound like—texts written by youkai, ranging from old classics to grimoires used by magicians or instructional books meant for humans. Most commonly, though, they record a youkai's existence. For youkai whose existence gets denied or forgotten, a book is basically their only lifeline; they seal themselves inside it and hope to be revived someday. Reading one can be risky since there's always a chance the youkai actually comes back.
The catch is that humans normally can't read them—they're written in incomprehensible characters. That's why youkai books are super rare in the Human village. Kosuzu's ability to read them has made her unusual in that respect, and she's started secretly collecting them for Suzunaan's inventory.
Suzunaan Book Renter
It's a traditional Japanese-style rental shop, though it also sells and prints books. They mainly stock outside-world publications, but Kosuzu has been quietly building up a youkai book collection on the side. The shop even printed Hieda no Akyuu's Gensokyo Chronicle (also known as Perfect Memento in Strict Sense).
