Satoshi Onoe wanted to be a serious political journalist, but he got stuck covering celebrity gossip and pop culture instead—just bad luck with staffing. Worse, he got paired with Motoharu Kaburagi, someone he'd competed against back when they both worked in the same journalism department. Kaburagi had beaten him to publication in DASH magazine repeatedly, and Onoe had been nursing that rivalry ever since. Being forced to work together only made him resent the guy more.
At first, Onoe found Kaburagi confusing. The man acted completely different around women than he did in the office, and he wasn't above using sketchy tactics to get information—stuff Onoe, who actually had principles, wouldn't touch. He called Kaburagi out as a liar whenever it came up. But gradually, as they worked together, Onoe realized Kaburagi was more complicated than his initial impression. He started seeing past the act, and before long, he was genuinely attracted to him. Around Kaburagi, he got shy and flustered.
Kaburagi picked up on it. He found himself increasingly drawn to Onoe's honesty, though it also confused him—he could never tell if Onoe was being sarcastic or completely serious. Since Onoe rarely lied, Kaburagi took everything he said at face value, which sometimes put him in awkward spots. As for Onoe, his attraction was strong enough that he got jealous pretty easily. Whenever a woman got close to Kaburagi, Onoe would spiral into assumptions and overthinking.
