A master of Ittō-ryū swordsmanship trained under Anotsu Saburō, Kuroi is best known for being absolutely unhinged. He's obsessed with preserving beauty—so much so that he taxidermied the heads of his ex-wife and Rin's mother, keeping them mounted on his shoulders like some kind of macabre jewelry. Beyond his impressive blade work, he wields a pair of shuriken called Karasu (The Crow) and has this weird habit of spouting poetry that references Black Sabbath whenever he shows up.
Fans often note the heavy metal influence in his character design. His name is basically a direct translation: Kuroi means black, and Sabato translates to Sabbath—the author Hiroaki Samura clearly loves the band. Kuroi first appears during the Conquest arc and doesn't last long; Manji kills him in Conquest part 3.
