Fifteen years before the series begins, Lars faced off against Dark Schneider in an epic multi-day battle. At that point, Dark Schneider had already conquered most of the world and just needed a handful more kingdoms to complete his takeover. Realizing he was outmatched and had no realistic path to victory, Lars made a desperate move: he summoned the Dragon Knight, a massive 500-meter-tall mechanical robot originally built by the Twelve Wise Men of Europa. The machine worked by absorbing and amplifying the spiritual energy of whoever piloted it—exactly what Lars needed to turn the tide and ultimately kill Dark Schneider.
But there was a catch. The Dragon Knight came with a curse, since it was actually designed to be used against Anthrax, not Dark Schneider, who was supposed to be its true master. Using it against the wrong enemy came with a price: Lars was transformed into a baby dragon. After Dark Schneider fell, Lars essentially vanished. No one knows what actually happened to him that day, and rumors swirled that he'd died.
As a baby dragon, Lars dedicated himself to finding a worthy successor for the Dragon Knight. He eventually crossed paths with Gara, a master ninja and one of the Four Lords of Havoc, who took him in as a pet. These days, Lars follows Dark Schneider around, observing his former mortal enemy—a strange arrangement given their devastating history.
His name is likely inspired by Lars Ulrich, Metallica's drummer.
