The grandfather of Hinata and Kaoru. His wife passed away seven years ago, and he shares responsibility with his daughters for managing the mountain. He's strict about keeping people out of restricted areas and doesn't go easy on his grandchildren, despite them treating the mountain like their personal playground.
He's aware of Yamatagi from old Misogiya family records, though that's his only real knowledge of it. Lacking much psychic ability himself, he's only ever sensed an unsettling presence—and that encounter was actually his first direct experience with the creature, despite living in these mountains for years.
When it comes to mountain-related decisions, he can be stubborn, but it's purely protective instinct. He's not the type of obstinate old man who ignores problems; having a foreign daughter-in-law, he's perfectly willing to look after Kaoru and help manage things properly.
