Teru is a 14-year-old Japanese middle schooler whose hero partner is Nvillo—though she calls them Ebio. She's best known for her hero identity as Shy.
Early on, Teru manages to save every rider on a malfunctioning roller coaster, which should've been a win. But Koishikawa Iko, one of the riders, ends up in critical condition despite Teru's best efforts. The public doesn't see it that way. They blame Shy. The backlash hits hard enough to send Teru into a spiral of depression and anxiety so severe she literally can't transform for an entire month. Public opinion craters as the days drag on.
She stays stuck in that dark place until a hotel catches fire. While emergency crews hesitate, Koishikawa's little brother—Iko's younger sibling—makes a desperate push to go in and save people himself. He declares he'll be Shy, insisting that being a hero isn't about having powers or being fearless. It's simpler than that: as long as you want to protect someone, no matter how scared you are, you're already a hero.
Those words break through Teru's wall. She transforms back into Shy and rushes into the burning building to pull people out.
