Ryota Takei goes to school with Aiba. He's best known for being a pretty typical teenage guy—the kind who'd rather skip class and hang out in Shinjuku than worry about homework.
When Aiba shows up in Shinjuku testing out whether their data body can move freely through the real world, Ryota's there with Sakura Fujisaki. He gives Aiba some grief about being out of touch, joking that he must've been stranded on a deserted island or something, and honestly can't even remember which country Aiba supposedly traveled to. Still, Ryota's genuinely impressed when he finds out Aiba became a cyber sleuth—he's pretty envious about the whole skipping classes thing that comes with it.
Ryota does manage to ask Sakura out, which feels like a win for him. Unfortunately, it doesn't last. Nokia Shiramine basically talks Sakura into breaking up with him the next day, convinced she can do way better.
