Professor Telesu is an archaeologist who showed up in the episode "A Crowning Achievement." He was investigating ancient hieroglyphics near a lake that housed a bunch of Slowpoke—until an earthquake dried the whole thing out.
According to what he'd deciphered from the carvings, the colony needed one of the Slowpoke to evolve into a Slowking to survive the crisis. Problem was, the Shellder living in the lake kept latching onto the Slowpoke and forcing them to become Slowbro instead. His daughter's Slowpoke turned out to be smarter than the rest, though. It managed to evolve properly into Slowking and had the sense to guide all the other Slowpoke and Slowbro to an underground cave system where water was still available.
