Sae is an upperclassman and close friend of Hiro who enrolled at school specifically to learn illustration for her fiction writing. She publishes professionally under the pen name "Aya Tachibana." Tall and athletic with a generally mature demeanor, she's best known for her playful, slightly mischievous side—she has a habit of tipping Yuno off to problems just vaguely enough that the younger girl still manages to walk right into them.
Her personality has an enigmatic edge to it. She enjoys playing detective when strange things come up (like investigating Miyako's apartment), and she's weirdly touchy about being compared to anything masculine. But her biggest tells are her insecurities: she gets flustered and defensive when anyone brings up her love life, inventing increasingly implausible stories about her romantic history while blushing furiously.
When it comes to her friends and especially her younger sister Chika (in the anime), Sae is genuinely shy about showing her feelings. She's much more at ease scolding Chika during visits, but the moment she expresses real concern for her, her face goes completely red. The gap between her tough exterior and how deeply she actually cares is pretty endearing.
