Raishinshi was taken in as an infant by Ki Shou and raised as his 100th child. Born with only a single senin bone, he ended up studying under Unchuushi, an eccentric immortal sage from Konronsan. Unchuushi's experiments transformed him drastically—his skin turned black, and he developed Tensouyoku, a pair of wind and lightning-controlling wings that grew from his back. Once he'd gained enough power, Raishinshi managed to escape the tyranny of his training and wanted to reunite with his father. His appearance held him back though, so instead he made a name for himself as a legendary thief, robbing from the rich for the people—until he ran into Taikoubou and lost that fight. That loss became his turning point. He disbanded his crew, trained properly at Konronsan, and joined up with the Shuu revolution.
Raishinshi doesn't show up as much as some other characters in the story, mainly because he spends a good chunk of time getting his wings completely remodeled and upgraded to three pairs. He does get more screen time as things build toward the final battle. Interestingly, the manga and anime handle his reunion with Ki Shou differently—they never actually meet in the manga before his father's death, but the anime gives them a proper scene together. Fans often note that Raishinshi works best as comedic relief; he's got a short temper and tends to be the source of laughs when he's around.
