Rance is the protagonist of the long-running Rance series. He's got no last name and is pretty much the definition of an anti-hero.
He's a fighter through and through, driven almost entirely by sex rather than any noble cause or sense of justice. Before things really took off, he lived in Ice, a small town in the Free Cities, where he picked up work through the local Keith Guild whenever funds ran low. After the events of Rance Quest, he built himself a massive castle—naturally called Rance Castle—where he now lives. His household includes a slave named Sill Plain and an artificial humanoid named Athena 2.0.
So here's the thing: despite being fundamentally selfish and reckless, his actions have somehow prevented the four major continental nations and JAPAN from falling to various Dark Lords. He's rescued plenty of women in distress along the way. That said, his impulsive sexual behavior has genuinely traumatized more than a few of them. The guy leaves damage in his wake, heroic outcomes or not.
