Hadlar leads the demon lord's armies as his commander. He was killed once before by Avan, but a far greater demon lord—Vearn—brought him back and gave him command of his forces instead.
At first, Hadlar only cared about getting revenge on Avan. That changed fast. When Dai, still basically a rookie, managed to seriously wound him in their first encounter, Hadlar became obsessed. He saw something in this kid that made him shift his focus entirely.
Vearn's gift to Hadlar comes with a brutal catch: whenever he dies, he returns in an even stronger body. But he can't control it, and each resurrection leaves a darker mark spreading across his face. The real trap is that he's trapped forever serving Vearn—he doesn't even have the freedom to actually die. He's bound to keep fighting, keep coming back, forever.
Early on, Hadlar genuinely feared and resented Dai for threatening his position. But as things went on, he came to respect him. By the end, he saw Dai as a true rival and someone actually worthy of his respect—a stark contrast to how he'd viewed him before.
