Haruka is a second-year high schooler and the oldest of three sisters. She's been the family's main caregiver for years, which has created some awkward assumptions among her classmates about what that responsibility actually entails. While she's definitely the most dependable of the three when it comes to looking after everyone, she turns into a total couch potato the moment she's alone—fans often note the contrast is pretty extreme.
Back in junior high, people called her Banchō, or "gang leader," though it turned out to be nothing more than a title. What's more telling is how Chiaki treats her. Chiaki is the only person who won't talk back to or disrespect Haruka; she genuinely looks up to her. You can see it in how Chiaki addresses her as "nee-sama" instead of the more casual "nee-san," and more notably, Chiaki uses formal Japanese with her—which is pretty unusual between siblings. She doesn't do that with anyone else in the family. The kanji in Haruka's name means "spring."
