What made Toshi stand out to coach Kubo was immediately obvious: his footwork was different from everyone else's. Kubo noticed he was unstable and off-balance with his right leg, which bothered him. After taking a closer look, Kubo figured out Toshi's real gift—an exceptionally powerful left leg. Rather than force him to adapt, Kubo pulled him aside for specialized one-on-one training, which Toshi initially resented.
But once Kubo had him focus purely on left-footed shooting, everything clicked. Toshi discovered he had a genuinely devastating weapon: his left leg could shoot with incredible force.
