Ema's been drawing better than everyone around her since high school, when she and some classmates made an anime for their school festival. After graduating, she headed to Tokyo and landed work as a key animator at Musashino Animation. Early on, she was willing to take smaller roles she didn't think mattered much, but she gradually started seeking out unfamiliar styles and techniques to push herself and broaden her skills.
She's not great with criticism, though. When animator Segawa Misato pointed out that her linework was dull and her key frames were mediocre, Ema's confidence took a real hit—she started questioning why she even animates. She kept it bottled up until Sugie Shigeru and Iguchi Yumi talked her through it.
