Mako is Akagi Gaju's younger sister and dance partner. She's actually the one who got both of them into dancing in the first place—they've been at it together since she was just four years old.
At the start, she struggled with some self-doubt, feeling like she wasn't really worthy of dancing alongside her brother. That changed after competing against Fujita at the Tenpei-cup, where they placed seventh. The competition was a turning point for her confidence, and things between her and Gaju improved too. She came out of it more comfortable with herself and their partnership.
