Nagi is Kousei Arima's first student and apprentice, a first-year at Kurumigaoka Junior High studying music. She showed up claiming to be a fan of Hiroko Seto, but that turned out to be cover for her real agenda—she actually despised Arima and wanted to study under him for her own reasons.
She's stubborn, childish, and unapologetically cunning. Despite her youth, Nagi's piano skills are genuinely impressive, which has made her cocky; she unironically calls herself the "Angel of Kurumi Junior High." She's also got strong opinions about etiquette and respect—she'll call people out for not using proper honorifics when addressing their seniors, like when Miike casually addressed Arima by his first name instead of acknowledging him as a teacher or upperclassman.
What really drives Nagi, though, is her brother complex with Takeshi. She's obsessed with getting his attention and has modeled herself after him to do it. Part of that fixation also comes from wanting to break his own unhealthy attachment to Kousei. Nagi despises clichés and tries to maintain what she sees as a realistic, no-nonsense view of the world—which mostly just makes her come across as a kid who thinks she's tougher and more grounded than everyone else.
