AZ
Three thousand years before the events of Pokémon X and Y, a brutal war tore through Kalos. Soldiers treated Pokémon—especially those with rare or powerful abilities—as nothing more than weapons and expendable resources, capturing and forcing them into combat without regard for their lives.
AZ was caught in this conflict. His most prized possession was a Floette he'd inherited from his mother, but soldiers seized it from him and sent it to the front lines. When he finally received his beloved Pokémon back, it was dead.
Consumed by grief, AZ did something extraordinary: he built a machine capable of resurrecting the dead. To power it, he channeled the life force of Xerneas/Yveltal/both (depending on the version). The machine worked—his Floette came back to life. But AZ's despair wouldn't let him stop there. He weaponized the resurrection machine into something far more sinister, and used it to obliterate both armies at once, ending the war in one catastrophic moment.
His Floette couldn't forgive him. Horrified that the machine had been fueled by the deaths of countless other Pokémon, it abandoned him.
The weapon's energy fundamentally changed AZ's body. His lifespan became unnaturally extended, and he grew to an extraordinary height—a living monument to his own tragedy.
