Yui comes from money, which meant a pretty sheltered upbringing—she basically didn't know how the real world worked. While she had plenty of acquaintances at school, she never really developed any close friendships, mostly just because life got in the way. Fed up with her parents' expectations, she bolted from home and ended up on the Free Friends message board after hearing about it from someone she knew. It was kind of her way of finding her own thing, away from the life her family had mapped out for her.
