Shiori's father, Tsukuyomaru, was a bat demon from a clan that fed on human and animal blood—her mother's village was actually one of their hunting grounds. But Tsukuyomaru broke the mold. He refused to kill humans and eventually fell in love with and married Shizu, a villager. The attacks stopped, and peace returned to the village, at least until Tsukuyomaru's death.
Desperate to prevent the demons from returning, Shizu made the painful decision to hand Shiori over to her grandfather, Taigokumaru. Shiori was terrified of him and didn't want to go, but the villagers pressured her into it.
Despite being half-demon like Inuyasha, Shiori got bullied constantly as a kid. Her mother faced discrimination too, and the two of them were basically ostracized—which is pretty ungrateful considering her father had brought peace to the entire village. Things got darker when Taigokumaru broke his word and the villagers attacked Shizu, only stopped by Inuyasha and his crew showing up.
Shiori inherited her family's signature power: the ability to create barriers using a red orb called the Blood Coral Crystal. This ability and the responsibility to use it get passed down through generations, but there's a catch—the power weakens with age and disappears completely once someone else takes over the duty. The barriers her family creates are seriously strong, capable of deflecting even major attacks like Tessaiga's Kaze no Kizu.
