Bardo is one of E-Rantel's biggest food merchants, controlling a significant chunk of the city's provisions trade. He's a round-bellied guy who dresses well—the kind of success story that shows. Clean-shaven with black hair going gray, he looks every bit his age, which is considerable.
What defines Bardo is the tension between his two sides. He's genuinely good-natured and actually cares about people's welfare, but he's also calculating and always hunting for the next business opportunity. The thing is, these motivations don't really conflict for him—he'll do a kind deed, sure, but he's not above accepting a reward for it either.
When Sebas Tian—the well-mannered butler of an Imperial heiress visiting E-Rantel—crosses paths with Bardo, the merchant takes a liking to him. Before the two leave the city, Bardo pulls Sebas aside with a warning: their hired hand Zach seems sketchy and might be trouble. He even offers to recommend some better bodyguards to the heiress. Sebas politely declines, and they go back and forth about it, but the old butler ultimately appreciates Bardo's concern. In return for looking out for them, Sebas promises to put in a good word with his employer's father back home—a gesture Bardo clearly values.
