Black Phoenix was one of the Black Knights serving on the Island of the Queen of Death. When the original Phoenix Ikki left the island to join the Bronze Saints, Jango took over command of the Black Knights and appointed Black Phoenix as his subordinate.
Black Phoenix's main encounter with Ikki came when the Bronze Saint returned to the island with three other Black Saints to defeat Jango. During their confrontation, Black Phoenix stripped Ikki of his armor box and engaged him in combat. He unleashed his Phoenix Illusion Black technique, which proved effective enough to leave Ikki completely trapped in its effects. Black Phoenix attempted to drown his opponent while Ikki was under the illusion's influence, but eventually backed off as the technique took full hold.
When Seiya, Shun, and Hyoga arrived on the scene, they found Ikki unresponsive and seemingly helpless. Ikki managed to break free from the illusion through Esmeralda's breathing technique, then retrieved his armor.
The fight escalated from there. Black Phoenix reminded Ikki of an old truth: the world couldn't sustain two Phoenixes—one had to fall. He attacked with his Flaming Wings of the Phoenix technique, striking Ikki down and killing him in the process.
