He and Android 20 made their debut on an island southwest of South City, immediately causing trouble before Goku's group showed up to stop them—though they'd been tipped off by Trunks beforehand. His main trick in a fight is absorbing energy through his hands, which lets him drain his opponents and boost his own power.
According to Toriyama, Android 19's design was inspired by a doll that sat in a command center at one of the Red Ribbon Army's bases. Gero grabbed it as a war trophy years earlier, and it eventually became the template for the android's appearance.
