Dosu is a genin from the Sound Village and leader of his squad. During the chunin exams, he and his team operated directly under Orochimaru's orders. His signature weapon is a device strapped to his left arm called a melody arm—it amplifies sound vibrations from his strikes, damaging opponents' eardrums and throwing off their balance. He's the only member of his squad to make it past the second stage of the exams, which he managed by defeating Choji Akimichi.
Initially, Dosu seemed fully committed to Orochimaru's goal of taking out Sasuke Uchiha. But that changed when he found out Orochimaru had marked Sasuke with a cursed seal. The realization hit hard: he and his teammates weren't there to accomplish anything real—they were just tools to test Sasuke's potential. That betrayal killed whatever loyalty Dosu had left for Orochimaru. Instead of backing down, though, he pivoted to a new goal: kill Sasuke himself, partly out of spite and partly to sabotage his former master's plans.
Driven by this grudge, Dosu made a reckless move before his scheduled match even happened. He attempted to take down Gaara in advance, hoping to thin out the competition and remove obstacles. The gamble didn't pay off. It cost him his life.
