Atsuko is Yusuke's mother—and yeah, she had him when she was just 15, which pretty much set the tone for their whole relationship. She's a heavy drinker, the kind of parent who's doing her best but definitely has her own issues to work through. Despite her messy personal life, she genuinely wants Yusuke to become a better person than she is, to actually make something of himself. It's just that good intentions don't always translate into results, and she struggles to actually pull it off. The gap between what she hopes for him and what actually happens is pretty much the heart of their dynamic.
