Calaveras (known as Avery in English) is the second-oldest of the Black Moon sisters. Like Tuxedo Mask, she can communicate with the dead—a skill that becomes central to her role in the story. She's named after the mineral calaverite and serves as a dark counterpart to Sailor Venus/Minako Aino.
In the manga, Calaveras shows up last with "Code:004, Operation Re-birth." Her power lets her channel spirits, and she uses this to pull Rubeus into Tokyo so he can brainwash people into abandoning the White Moon and destroying the Silver Crystal. When Venus tries to stop the channeling, Calaveras summons the spirits of her dead sisters and even forces three captured Senshi to attack through possessed civilians. She traps Venus but ultimately can't capture her—Rubeus is already weakened from fighting Tuxedo Mask—and gets killed by Sailor Moon during the rescue.
The anime gives her a very different personality. Calaveras comes across as bratty and lazy, constantly mocking her sisters (especially Petz) and refusing to do her own work. She tags along on Petz's missions, even stealing credit for Berthier's final one. Her last job is technically Petz's too: using a corrupting stick to eliminate the Senshi and their now-redeemed siblings. But when Petz turns the weapon on all three girls, Calaveras is horrified. Sailor Moon shows her compassion in that moment, and something clicks—Calaveras finally understands human love. She warns the Senshi about the stick's power and even saves Petz from falling into a time-vortex with her whip. Once the Senshi destroy the weapon, she accepts purification and becomes human.
