Ramona is a courier who runs a delivery business with her younger brother Keegan and their Arcanine. She first crossed paths with Ash's group in "The Stolen Stones!" when she and Keegan rescued them from a rockslide—a feat that immediately caught Brock's attention. He was so impressed by how effortlessly she handled her tough Pokémon that he started flirting with her on the spot.
Ramona and Keegan were transporting Fire Stones to a city near Olivine City, meant to be awarded as prizes at an upcoming Fire-type competition. Team Rocket ambushed them and made off with the entire shipment. To track down the thieves, the group split up: Ramona, Brock, and Misty went after James while Ash and Keegan chased Jessie. Things went south when Ramona's team fell into a pitfall trap, but Brock's Onix pulled them out.
When they caught up with Team Rocket again, Ramona had her two Arcanine unleash Fire Spin on their getaway balloon, forcing them down. She recovered the Fire Stones and managed to deliver them to competition headquarters right on schedule.
