Gimmighoul is a small, blue-gray metallic Pokémon with a bipedal build. Two thin black stripes wrap around its torso, and it has gold circular eyes with thin black antennae above them. Its tail bends near the base and ends in a small gold circle, much like the antennae—both vibrate when it senses something interesting.
The Pokémon exists in two distinct forms. In Chest Form, Gimmighoul hides inside a red treasure chest decorated with black and gold accents, complete with a silver buckle. The chest is packed with Gimmighoul Coins, and from the side, the buckle's design resembles the number 1,000. In Roaming Form, it carries just a single coin on its back instead. The two forms have completely different personalities and abilities.
Chest Form Gimmighoul is the manipulative one. It hides in forgotten places—warehouses, shop corners, old ruins—waiting to possess anyone who gets close. Once possessed, people and Pokémon are forced to gather coins for its hoard. According to folklore, a Gimmighoul once drove a young girl to collect 999 coins, and it's known to drain the life of anyone foolish enough to try stealing from it. The weight of its chest makes movement slow, which actually works in its favor—people mistake it for an antique and leave it behind, perfect for ambushing. When it finally collects 999 coins, it evolves into Gholdengo. Legend says Chest Form Gimmighoul was born inside its chest 1,500 years ago and can be found throughout Paldea in ancient ruins, watchtowers, and remote islands.
Roaming Form Gimmighoul is the opposite: one of the tiniest and lightest Pokémon around, born from coins infused with passion. It's extremely shy, bolting away and dropping its coin the moment anyone approaches. Unlike its Chest Form relative, it doesn't possess or manipulate anyone—it gathers coins on its own. The catch is that despite being everywhere in Paldea, no one has actually managed to catch one. It wanders constantly, supposedly searching for the chest it once called home. It still drains life force from coin thieves, though. In Pokémon GO, Roaming Form Gimmighoul appears near trainers who pick up coins and can be lured with Coin Bags or Golden Lure Modules.
The species was first discovered and named by Jacq and Professor Willow.
