Fumika comes across as genuinely kind and playful—she's got that charm that makes her naturally popular and widely considered cute. What's interesting about her is how she handles being possessed by yokai; she usually keeps her cheerful attitude even when bewitched, though she can accidentally come off as cruel during these episodes. The weird part is she never actually remembers any of it afterward. She's got a sharp mind, but there's a lot of pressure there too—she's constantly worried about living up to her mother's expectations. Despite all that, she's surprisingly brave and totally comfortable with heights.
In the anime, she's positioned as Keita's love interest, which drives a lot of the plot. He's basically always trying to impress her and getting nowhere, which is kind of the running gag. Since she gets possessed by yokai constantly, Keita ends up having to step up and face them to protect her—it's his whole hero moment, over and over.
The games actually let you do something different: in the first two Yo-kai Watch titles, you can swap Keita out entirely and play as Fumika instead, complete with her own Youkai Watch. Keita gets bumped to a supporting role when that happens.
