Kenji quit soccer after getting his team kicked out of a tournament following a gang fight, but he got talked into joining the team anyway—same deal as Kazuhiro. As a goalkeeper, he's genuinely talented with an almost uncanny ability to read where the ball's going. The downside? He's got a short fuse and gets into fights way too easily. His early matches with Mahori got pretty heated.
What he's really known for is the "Moon Salto Save," a technique he develops later in the series. It's become his signature move, and for good reason—he uses it to shut down some seriously dangerous attacks, like when he blocked Rudy's Wolf Shoot and kept Kakegawa's goal line locked down. Even in casual training matches against his friend Toshi, he's pulled it out to defend against the Golden Shoot.
