One of Sinbad's eight generals, Ja'far wields the household vessel Balalark Sei and stands out for his almost fanatical loyalty—he's genuinely dangerous to anyone foolish enough to insult his king. He works tirelessly managing affairs while Sinbad does whatever he wants, which leaves Ja'far stressed and occasionally on the verge of passing out. His temper is notoriously short, though his dedication to the job never wavers.
Ja'far's wardrobe is pretty minimal by choice. He basically lives in formal wear and owns just the one casual outfit Sinbad gave him when he was 14. It's become something of a running joke among fans how attached he is to that single set of clothes.
His character is inspired by the historical figure Ja'far ibn Yahya (also called Ja'far al-Barmaki), who served as vizier under Harun al-Rashid. The real Ja'far appears throughout the tales in One Thousand and One Nights, which is why the name carries that classical weight.
